My glute pain was so bad I could barely walk after my 405 set, so I didnt wanna do a bunch of sets, but I also didnt want to walk out of the gym without a training effect for my squat. It seemed like the best compromise I could think of.
I think I might see a physical therapist to see if they can give me any insight into why this hasn't gotten any better in 2 years. I dont expect the PT to have any insight at all, but it would be cool if they did.
Also I think I might force myself through smolov base + intense. I feel like the only way to get myself out of this stalling rut is to bulk up really hard, and then drag my body into the brinks of hell.

I seriously don't give a shit about training through squat pain and crappy form anymore. That random 455x2.5 squat proved (to me) that how much I am to squat is completely independent of my programming, and that the overwhelmingly determining factor in how much I can squat on a given day is my form.
Its honestly retarded, I can randomly almost hit 455 for a triple to better depth than I ever hit it before after NOT squatting heavy for 6 months, but then I have days when 405 is a struggle.
